FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Tolk?
Tolk is a real-time voice translation app for iOS and Android. You speak naturally and Tolk plays your words out loud in the other person's language within seconds — a live, two-way conversation instead of typing into a text box. It understands 70+ spoken languages.
Can I use AirPods to translate conversations?
Yes. In headphones mode you wear your AirPods or any Bluetooth earbuds and hold the phone out to the other person: you hear their words translated in your ears, and they hear you through the phone speaker. Unlike Apple's built-in Live Translation, Tolk works with any earbuds and covers 70+ languages — not just five.
Does Tolk work in China?
Yes. Tolk works in places where Google Translate and Apple's built-in translation are unavailable or restricted, including mainland China. It does need an internet connection, because the translation is generated live as you speak.
How many languages does Tolk support?
Tolk understands 70+ spoken languages — including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese and many more — so you can hold a real conversation in most countries you travel to.
Is Tolk free, or is there a subscription?
No. Tolk has no subscription. You start with 10 free minutes, then buy minute packs only when you need them — and your minutes never expire, so they're ready for your next trip.
Does Tolk work offline?
No. Tolk uses real-time AI to translate as you speak, so it needs a mobile-data or Wi-Fi connection. That connection is also what lets it sound natural and support 70+ languages.
How is Tolk different from Google Translate?
Tolk is built for spoken, back-and-forth conversation rather than typing or one phrase at a time. It translates both directions in a single live session with natural human-sounding voices, works with AirPods, and runs in places where Google Translate doesn't — including mainland China.
